Dearest friends, crowd & community,
it is now official: We are funded and the result exceeded even our most ambitious expectations.
We just opened a bottle of Champagne to celebrate, we are just so happy and euphoric right now...it is hard to sit still and to write these lines.
If we could, we would hug every single one of you in person to say thank you:
Thank you for supporting this project, thank you for this unbelievable amount of positive feedback and excitement we experienced over the past 32 days, and thank you for being part of this wonderful time of our lives.
We still made a lot of mistakes, but given the fact that we are not a heavily funded silicon valley start-up with loads of money and staff -we are still "just" the two of us-, we feel like we performed really well and we are acutally very proud of ourselves! YES!
As we are writing these lines, we also realise the intensity of the past 10 weeks, the constant adrenaline rush and the **** loads of work we put in this project, (and now we know: It was worth the effort!), but we also feel drained, exhausted and deeply tired.
Guys, we take it easy for the weekend: Forgive us if we do not answer any comments or mails, we will just sleep, eat, make some sport and go back to bed. Greatest plan ever, can´t wait.
We will be back on monday, answering all questions and comments.

We are dispatching the first batch of the giftcards today, covering everybody who requested their giftcard until yesterday morning.
All backers from the US and outside the EU: We got informed yesterday that -due to the increased Christmas traffic- letters can take up to 2 weeks to arrive at their destination. (Which is surprising, as our parcels we ship to the US on a regular basis still only take 2-3 days.)
While we still believe that most of you will get their gift card in time, it is possible that some of you will not get their giftcard before Christmas, and we are so sorry: We should have planned in some extra days on top of latest shipping date we were given, just to make sure. Huge apologies!

Wir haben intensiv darüber nachgedacht, ob wir noch weitere finale Stretchgoals hinzufügen. Wir haben uns aber letztendlich dagegen entschieden, auf die letzten Meter die Dinge zu überstürzen: Lieber bringen wir zusätzliche Erweiterung im Post-Kampagnen-Management raus, sobald wir uns sicher sind, dass es wirklich eine gute Idee ist.

this is more or less redundant to say, as most of you naughty, naughty people already pledged for the carving pad anyways, but we have to maintain a little bit of decency and good manners:

Dear friends,
we announced before that there is another strectchgoal coming -some of you might have noticed the excited tremble in our writing- and this is actually something very special for us to announce.
But lets start from the beginning:
One of our core features is that swiping move with your hand, when you swipe food and waste off the board into those food pans (you don´t now yet what exactly we are talking about and how much of a difference it makes, but you will experience it yourself in March :)
So, having this swiping gesture at the core of our product kind of implicated the absence of a juice rim: If you swipe stuff off your board, you don´t want it to get stuck in that juice rim on the way, obviously.
And for us with our product -which we always pride ourselves for actually being quite thought through- this has always been THE flaw, the gaping wound in our product driven souls:
If you wanna do BBQ and carve huge pieces of meat with loads of excessive juices or cut 5 kg of tomatoes, our board was not the best choice. And that despite the fact that with those food pans attached, it always had the potential to be much better than all the other products on the market.
This kept us busy for over a year, and for some reason, we solved this problem last week in a massive HEUREKA moment, when everything just fell into place and felt right straight away.
So we did some fast sourcing and calculations, and we are so ***** excited to announce this today:

THE FRANKFURTER PAD

Having turned this particular situation and it´s specific requirements over and over in our heads, it is actually quite surprising how simple and natural this solution feels and looks, and yet it provides a satisfying answer to all critical points:
The pad will be made from medical grade TPU, a very robust, yet soft and flexible plastic, which can even be boiled to sterilize and which is very resilient to cutting marks.
And instead of having a revolving juice rim, which would be difficult to clean and not very efficient in terms of juice channeling, we rather decided to incline the cutting surface towards the middle and towards the front: All excessive juices will now simply flow towards that attached food pan and drip off the edge.
This solution could not be any easier and yet, it is by far the very best solution for BBQ on the market. So glad we got that covered now too.
The FRANKFURTER PAD is available as soon as we reach 475.000€, you can order it on top of your pledge by increasing your pledge amount.

(Again, we would like to point out, that this is a very, very good price for you guys. The pad weights around 1 kg, so the material alone costs us a lot, left alone the costs for tool making and development.)

wir haben ein weiteres Stretchgoal angekündigt, und wer genau hingeschaut hat, konnte unsere Aufregung zwischen den Zeilen heraus lesen, denn dies ist etwas ganz Besonderes für uns.
Aber wie immer, von Anfang an:
Eines der ganz zentralen Eigenschaften unseres Brett-Systems ist diese wischende Geste, mit der Abfall und Schnittgut vom Brett herunter gewischt werden (Noch wisst Ihr nicht zu 100%, wovon wir reden und wie gut sich das anfühlt, aber spätestens März nächsten Jahres ist es dann soweit :).
Diese Geste hat dementsprechend immer bedeutet, dass wir keine Saft-Rille in unsere Bretter integrieren konnten: Man möchte natürlich vermeiden, dass Abfall und Schnittgut beim Abwerfen immer in der Rille hängen bleiben.
Und für uns und unser Produkt -von dem wir gerne denken, dass es im Detail ziemlich durchdacht ist - war dieser Umstand immer DER große Makel, die große klaffende Wunde in unseren Produkt-verliebten Seelen:
Wer gerne grillt und oft große Stücke Fleisch mit erheblichen Mengen Fleischsaft tranchiert oder große Mengen Tomaten schneidet, für den war unser Brett nicht die beste Wahl. Und das obwohl wir immer wussten, dass wir mit unseren Behältern potentiell viel besser als alle anderen Produkte sein konnten.
Diese Frage hat uns über ein ganzes Jahr beschäftigt, und aus irgendwelchen Gründen hatten wir letzte Woche einen großen HEUREKA-Moment, als alle Probleme sich in Luft aufgelöst haben und alles sich sofort richtig angefühlt haben.
Also haben wir ein paar schnelle Kalkulationen gemacht und einige Angebote eingeholt, und jetzt sind wir einfach richtig, richtig stolz, dieses hier anzukündigen:

Das FRANKFURTER PAD

Nachdem wir dieses Problem wieder und wieder in unseren Köpfen umhergewälzt haben, ist es jetzt wieder total überraschend, wie einfach und natürlich diese Lösung ist, und doch bietet es eine befriedigende Antwort auf alle kritischen Punkte:
Das Pad wird aus TPU gespritzt, einem medizinischen Kunststoff, der extrem robust und gleichzeitig weich und flexibel ist, außerdem sterilisiert werden kann und kaum anfällig für Schnittspuren ist.
Anstatt einer umlaufenen Saftrille, die schwierig zu reinigen wäre und nicht optimal die Flüssigkeiten abtransportiert, haben wir die Schneideflächen Richtung Mitte und Front geneigt: Alle auftretenden Flüssigkeiten sammeln sich jetzt einfach in der Mitte und fließen direkt nach vorne, wo sie an der speziellen Abtropfkante einfach in den Behälter abtropfen.
Das FRANKFURTER PAD ist erhältlich sobald wir 475.000€ erreicht haben, und kann vorbestellt werden indem man seinen Unterstützer-Beitrag erhöht.

We just passed the 400k€ mark, and with 5 days to go in the campaign, there is a good chance that we reach our internal ideal goal of 500k€. Just awesome.

Alright, here is our first stretchgoal, available from now on:
OAK END GRAIN WOOD!
There was a strong front for the end grain option in the comments, and of course: We wanted to see it as much as you guys!
And when we picked it up from our carpenter yesterday, we were like: Oh wow. This is sexy.
But check it out yourself:
The checkerboard pattern works so well with the lively warm grain of the wood. It just looks gorgeous.
We created a new reward: OAK END GRAIN early bird (175€ | 150 slots) & kickstarter special (185 €)
You will realise that the difference between OAK early bird and OAK END GRAIN early bird is only 16€. We want to point out that this is a very, very good price and we are still not sure whether this will cover our additional costs. But as the campaign overall is performing so well, we are happy to take that little extra risk.
If you want to switch your reward, do the following:
Go to your account > supported projects > Frankfurter Brett > edit pledge > pick your new reward > DONE.
Important: Make sure you add your upgrades back on top of your new reward (just as you did before).
Once the early bird rewards are gone, they are gone. So better be fast.
Will there be any more end grain wood options?
Nope, most certainly not. Oak is the most beautiful end grain wood, and we counted the most up-votes in the comments for oak. And we need a certain minimum order quantity to source our material.
(But as you might have noticed, we hear what our crowd says: If there is enough demand for another wood, we will look into it.)
